Can I painting with acrylic paint on oil paint?

In our practice, there was a case when the masters painted the doors with acrylic paint over oil paint. As a result, the surface was covered with bubbles and then fell off. What should be done to prevent this from happening?

Note that acrylic and oil paints are used when painting both exterior and interior parts of a building. However, there are nuances when working with this type of paints.

It should be remembered that oil paints are produced on the basis of natural linseed oil or its synthetic analog, mixed with mineral pigments. To obtain a paint, its components are rubbed until a uniform mixture is formed.

In comparison with oil, acrylic paints are much more ecological in nature, since they do not contain organic solvents. Furthermore, the basis of acrylic solutions is water, these paints do not have a sharp odor.

What you need to do to painting with acrylic paint over the oil paint

Acrylic paint falls well on the surface, painted with oil paint. Before painting, you should walk on the painted surface with fine sandpaper to remove the paint layer. Then the walls are cleaned of dust and degreased. To do this, you can wipe the surface with a damp cloth soaked in soapy water. At the same time, you make sure that the old paint is firmly held, does not flake anywhere. When the walls dry, you can start painting the walls with acrylic paint.

Acrylic paint for consistency is very thick, for the first layer it is better to dilute it with clean cold water 1:1. If the walls are going to be painted with a spray gun, the paint should be diluted with a special diluent. Thinner for acrylic paint is sold in two types, one gives the paint matte, and the other - a glossy look.

Masters advise a special primer, which is used in such works - painting with acrylic paint over oil.
