When painting, work is passing several stages, the house owners are left with remnants of latex or acrylic paint. But is it possible to mix different types of paint? Let’s find out the answer to this question.
The difference between latex and acrylic
First things first, it is good to know the difference between acrylic and latex paints, how compatible they are and allow themselves to be mixed. In latex in aqueous solution are rubber colloidal particles (synthetic) and emulsifiers. There are latex paints and natural latex - these are juices:
- Poppy,
- Hevei,
- Dandelion.
They cost a lot and the differences are visible only to a specialist. Artificial latex rubber based on:
- Urethane,
- Siloxane,
- Styrene-butadiene,
- Isoprene,
- Acrylate.
Acrylic paint consists of acrylate copolymers and rubber filler butadiene styrene group. As you can see, latex and acrylic have one basis. If you see "Acrylic paint with latex", then you should not break the brain, just added butadiene styrene to the composition of acrylic. This is done with one purpose to decrease the price.
Mixing rules
If it is necessary to mix several colors, then pay attention to the following parameters of the compositions:
- Glossy-matte;
- Bright pale;
- The presence of butadiene styrene;
- Type of rubber filler (natural-synthetic).
Consistency
Mixing gloss and matte composition are good for backyard or closets. But don’t use it in your house and do not interfere it with the saturated and pale white color. Also, you should not mix water dispersion and water-based coatings.
Differences between water emulsion and water dispersion
Water-based dispersion paint consists of water, a coloring pigment, polymer particles, and also binders based on acrylic and silicone resins. As a water dispersion composition can be acrylic and:
- Mineral,
- Silicone,
- Silicate.
The mineral composition is the most common. It has lime or cement. Plus - low price, minus - fragility. Silicone material will please moisture resistance, and silicate fungi and mold are not terrible.
A special emulsion is added to the water-based paint - silicone resin, which makes the material durable and durable. The remaining components of the composition are identical. The advantages of the EEC are described above, minus one is a higher price, compared to VDK.
Be sure to do a trail mix with a mixer - if different formulations at the merger turned into serum and lost homogeneity, then they are not compatible. It is also important to paint with a mixed paint surface area, wait for it to dry and assess the quality of a painting.
