Drywall is a universal building material. It can be mounted quickly while the «wet» processes are practically absent. You can create any design and form using it. But there is one problem that should be solved. This is a seal of drywall construction joint. It’s an easy process if you know what to do and have some right tools.
The right tools and plaster
The spatula is the main tool that is useful for work. Everyone chooses a spatula which is most convenient to work. Someone works with a narrow spatula; someone likes a wide one. It is not so important. The main thing is the flexibility of the blade. It’s important to choose plaster for drywall. Many builders simply treat joints with finishing plaster. This is wrong especially if the surface is prepared for painting. So, the choice of plaster depends on the further finishing of the walls or ceiling of plasterboard. Choose famous stuff manufacturers.
Sealing drywall construction joints
First things thirst you should prepare the plaster mixture. Then put it on the end of the spatula and apply it with longitudinal movements on the surface. Try to push the plaster mixture into the seam. If the seam length exceeds 3m – divide the surface into areas to work. Cut a piece of paper tape or mesh along the entire length of the seam. Glue it to the junction of sheets of drywall. Try to glue joint through the middle of the tape. Ceiling joints are more difficult. The plaster mixture doesn’t adhere sufficiently to the drywall and falls down. It is necessary to press the spatula to the surface of the ceiling. Hold it along increasing the pressure. It will prevent the plaster from falling, and the seam surface will be smooth.
Tips and tricks
Even if you made everything correct, a few cracks may appear on the drywall surface. It’s not a surprise because of the drywall temperature changes. To minimize the likelihood of occurrence you should try to fill the joints well with plaster. It is recommended to close up the drywall seams with plaster after a constant humidity and temperature is established in the room. In this case, there will be no cracks. But constant indicators of temperature and humidity are observed only in rooms that are equipped with serious ventilation systems. You may be misled by a similar inscription on the packaging of plaster. Don’t think it means that you finish the walls and there will be no cracks on them. Most likely, your type of plaster is simply not designed for reinforcing tape, because it cannot hold it.
