Unforgivable mistakes when painting walls

There are basic mistakes that many people do during the wall painting process. First one is to forget to stir the paint. This is the most basic, but very critical principle. The paint has solids and solvents. When the paint is staying still some time, it settles on the bottom. If you do not mix the paint in the can, you will get a terrible result. If you paint the walls immediately after you brought a bucket of paint from the store where it was pre-shaken up, then you can skip this step. In all other cases, be sure to thoroughly stir it.

Painting without surface test

If you paint with a latex paint surface, previously covered with oil paint, the result will not be presentable. Even if something works out, the paint will last for about a year. Therefore, you should definitely test the surface, if you do not know what it was painted. Make it easy. Soak a cotton swab in alcohol and rub it on the surface. If the paint softens or leaves, then it is oily.

Ignoring test samples

About 60-70 percent of successful paint work is preparatory work. It includes the protection of surfaces with a cloth or film. Do not think that you will spend time only on painting and leave without covering things. Then you will have paint everywhere. Of course, after drying you can try to scrape it off, but it will take a lot of time. It is much easier to throw a thin layer on clean surfaces. In addition, it is important to protect the joints with the ceiling and other materials with masking tape.

Rolling over all the walls

If the paint has some degree of gloss, then its layer on the wall must necessarily have a uniform thickness. If you do not apply paint in a uniform layer (and for this you need to practice a little), then the light will be reflected differently from uneven areas and produce paint defects. Therefore, determine for the area that is painted. Make frequent movements with a roller and keep the "wet edge", not allowing the paint to dry.

Cheap tools and paint

A good paint roller is really worth it. The quality of the painting depends on the quality of the tools. Instead of buying cheap rollers and brushes that will serve you very little, buy quality tools and use them for several years. As for cheap paint, it will not save much. Substandard paint is consumed significantly more than expensive paint. In addition, the longevity of the coating depends on the quality and properties of the paint.

Ignoring instructions

Each paint label indicates how much it should dry. If this information is not adhered to, the surface risks being damaged by cracks or bubbles. Even artificial drying with an industrial dryer is not always a good solution. If you are in a hurry, it is better to choose a paint with an accelerated drying time.
